A scene from the new PET SEMATARY trailer!
“You can take Route 301 and go to Tampa, or you could take Route 17 and go to Tampa. But both times, you’re gonna come out at Tampa,” Stephen King tells EW!
The world of Stephen King fans went gaga with the twist in the new film version of Pet Sematary. The author tweeted " This is a scary movie. Be warned this link opens in a new tab" when the first trailer was released by PARAMOUNT.
“It’s something different,” King says. “They did a good job. Boy, I saw all the stuff that came online when people realized that it was Ellie rather than Gage that got run over in the road, and I’m thinking like, ‘Man, these people…’ It’s so nuts.”
The directors of the film [slated to release in April 2019 ]feel the change allows them to explore more.
Laughingly author Stephen King adds: "You know what I’m saying? It didn’t change anything for me. I thought, ‘Okay, I understand why they did it, because it’s maybe easier to work with a zombie when she’s a little girl than a toddler."
“It’s f—ing great,” says King, who was not directly involved in the making of it. “It’s a really good movie. It’s a grown-up, adult kind of movie. It’s not like twelve semi-clad teens get killed in a summer camp.”
The movie has all the odd-eerie-drama of kids, sacred burial grounds, car-journey, rural villages, shapes and figures wanting to sweep into your house.
The film particularly rises from our love for our pets and their loss. A hardworking doctor Louis Creed is a hospital doctor and shifts to Maine. His wife Rachel and children Ellie and Gage join him! In a lovely house, they are well settled until they discover the tradition of children burying their pets in a clearing for pets!
There's also a mythology surrounding the book that it was initially very scary to publish.
"No, I mean it’s true. I listened to it last year when I was down here in Florida walking on the beach with the dog. Michael C. Hall [of Dexter and Six Feet Under] did the audiobook. I was curious about it. You know, I hadn’t been near it in 20, 25 years. So I listened to it, and thought, “My God, this is just awful. It’s just as dark as can be,” says the author to Entertainment Weekly!
Author King greatly enjoyed the book while writing it:
"I just had the greatest time writing the book until I was done with it. And I read it over, and I said to myself, “This is awful. This is really f—ing terrible.” Not that it was badly written, necessarily. But all that stuff about the death of kids. It was close to me, because of my kids."
Those of us who have just read the book can wait for April to see if what the author has to say about the movie, matches the truth!
