A little cafe perched in Vimanangar holds regular poetry meet-ups; among other happenings. And The Yellow Room-Poet's Club brings a weekly edition at the cafe. Nukkad Cafe and The Yellow Room-Poet's Club are organizing " Ustadon Ki Mehfil" in a virtual event on October 10. The Yellow Room-Poet's Club was founded by Simran Khurana, a Pune-based poet.
Every meet-up is dedicated to one renowned poet. This meetup would discuss the poetry of Mughal poet Daagh Dehlvi.
Nawab Mirza Khan (Urdu: نواب مرزا خان ) Daagh Dehlvi (1831-1905) (Urdu: داغ دہلوی) was a well-known Mughal poet. He was famous for his Urdu ghazals. Nawab Mirza Khan wrote under the takhallus 'Daagh Dehlvi.' He lost his father when he was only six and was brought up by his step-father, Mirza Muhammad Fakhroo ( heir to Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor.) With the death of Mirza Muhammad, Dehlvi moved to Rampur where he entered government service. There he stayed for 24 years. Then followed a period of struggle which came to an end when he visited Hyderabad. He made a name as an Urdu poet there and lived in luxury.
Dehlvi was known for his sensuous, romantic poems and gazals. His poetry is free of any despair. And the tone of his poems is exhilarating. He wrote in simple and chaste Urdu! He did not allow western influence to come to his poetry. His writing exists in four volumes in 16,000 couplets.
His ghazals or couplets are highly quotable:
Tu hai harjai to apnaa bhi yehi taur sahi
Tu nahin aur sahi, aur nahin, aur sahi
His ghazals have been sung by ghazal singers like Ghulam Ali, Mehdi Hassan ,and Abida Parveen.
kaabe kī hai havas kabhī kū-e-butāñ kī hai mujh ko ḳhabar nahīñ mirī miTTī kahāñ kī hai
sun ke mirā fasāna unheñ lutf aa gayā suntā huuñ ab ki roz talab qissa-ḳhvāñ kī hai
paiġhām-bar kī baat par aapas meñ ranj kyā merī zabān kī hai na tumhārī zabāñ kī hai
kuchh tāzgī ho lazzat-e-āzār ke liye har dam mujhe talāsh na.e āsmāñ kī hai

fursat kahāñ ki ham se kisī vaqt tū mile din ġhair kā hai raat tire pāsbāñ kī hai
qāsid kī guftugū se tasallī ho kis tarah chhuptī nahīñ vo baat jo terī zabāñ kī hai
jaur-e-raqīb o zulm-e-falak kā nahīñ ḳhayāl tashvīsh ek ḳhātir-e-nā-mehrbāñ kī hai
sun kar mirā fasāna-e-ġham us ne ye kahā ho jaa.e jhuuT sach yahī ḳhūbī bayāñ kī hai
dāman sambhāl bāñdh kamar āstīñ chaḌhā ḳhanjar nikāl dil meñ agar imtihāñ kī hai
har har nafas meñ dil se nikalne lagā ġhubār kyā jaane gard-e-rāh ye kis kārvāñ kī hai
kyūñki na aate ḳhuld se aadam zamīn par mauzūñ vahīñ vo ḳhuub hai jo sunte jahāñ kī hai
taqdīr se ye pūchh rahā huuñ ki ishq meñ tadbīr koī bhī sitam-e-nā-gahāñ kī hai
urdu hai jis kā naam hamīñ jānte haiñ 'dāġh' hindostāñ meñ dhuum hamārī zabāñ kī hai
Dehlvi belonged to the Dabistan-e-Delhi ( Delhi school of thought. ) A distinct quality of his style was simplicity.
