Featuring films in 15 languages the New York Indian Film Festival celebrates Indian Regional Cinema!

The New York Indian Film Festival powered by Movie Saints and sponsored by CitiBank, Mera Sangeet, ITV Gold, Bank Of Baroda, and more is the oldest and most prominent film festival in North America, showcasing films from India and the Indian Diaspora. The New York Indian Film Festival honors alternative, independent filmmaking from throughout the world. The festival is dedicated to giving a platform for filmmakers, actors, and industry experts to display their work, as well as establishing an environment where creators can exchange ideas and interact with discriminating and diverse audiences, journalists, and fans. This year NYIFF will be streaming films in 15 regional languages with a strong representation to Indian regional cinema. In 2021, the event will take place virtually from June 4 to June 13. It will be exclusively streaming on Movie Saints.

Opening night gala, premiere screenings, all-day industry panels, overnight networking parties, post-screening talks, red carpet galas, directorial debuts, award ceremony, industry engagement, media attention, outreach events, and standing-room-only audiences are just a few of the highlights. A documentary on Mahatma Gandhi and another on Satyajit Ray are among the 58 films (23 narrative features, 8 documentary features and 27 short films) that will be shown at the 21st New York Indian Film Festival's virtual edition next month (NYIFF).

The red carpet is a star-studded sight with the guest stars S Mitra Kalita, Zakir Hussain, Adil Hussain, Hansal Mehta, Naseeruddin Shah, Niladari Kumar, Padmavati Rao, Ranjan Ghosh, Rasika Dugal and Rituparna Sengupta. The featured films for nominations are the finest craftings by one of the best directors in the industry, such as Ahimsa Gandhi: The Power Of The Powerless, Fire In The Mountains, Pinki Elli, The Music of Satyajit Ray, and WOMB: Women Of My Billion.







Many of their previous festival picks have gone on to win prizes or be featured at events such as the Academy Awards (Oscars), British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild, Tribeca Film Festival, and the IFP Market.

The Festival Jury bestows awards in the following categories:


  • Best Film

  • Best Feature Documentary

  • Best Short Film

  • Best Director

  • Best Short Documentary

  • Best Actor

  • Best Child Actor

  • Best Actress

  • Best Screenplay.


The nominations of short films is a brilliant line of Teens and Screens - Ideals and Fantasies, Social Games, A World Of Desires and Come Undone - Black Realities.


Pinki Elli? (Where's Pinki?) by award-winning filmmaker, Prithvi Konanur will be the festival's opening feature.

Ahimsa Gandhi: The Power of the Powerless, directed by Ramesh Sharma, will be the festival's centrepiece film, alongside Ajitesh Sharma's WOMB: Women of My Billions.WOMB - Women of My Billion, is a story about a girl who walked the length of the country India and the women she met.





Fire in the Mountains, an award-winning film by Ajitpal Singh that has been chosen as the closing night feature, will bring the curtains down. A mother toils to save money to build a road in a Himalayan village to take her wheelchair-bound son for physiotherapy but her husband who believes that a shamanic ritual 'Jaagar' is the remedy, steals her savings in Fire in the Mountains .
